The South Pender Island Local Trust Committee approved an amended temporary use permit for materials storage, subject to approval of the proposed non-farm use by the Agricultural Land Commission. The committee also amended the permit’s conditions at its August 1 special meeting.[1]

The amended conditions restrict work to 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Friday and 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, with no work permitted on Sundays or holidays. They also prohibit processing, crushing or sorting aggregates within the permit area.[1]

During discussion, the minutes record concerns in a letter from residents about truck traffic potentially occurring seven days a week, including Sundays and holidays. Staff noted that the permit guidelines specify no sorting or processing on site and that the land used for storage would be restored to its previous condition.[1]

The committee also supported a related application and asked staff to forward it to the Agricultural Land Commission for further consideration.[1]
