The South Pender Island Local Trust Committee voted to repeal Bylaw 122 and make further community engagement on the 2021 Land Use Bylaw Amendments Project its next minor project; staff were asked to prepare options for the committee’s September 2023 meeting.[1]

At the June 3 meeting, trustees heard public comments both supporting and opposing repeal, including calls to revisit the bylaw and to retain it while improving community understanding.[1]

The minutes say the committee’s repeal resolution was intended to demonstrate its intent to review changes made under Bylaw 122.[1]

The committee also voted to stop work on proposed Bylaw 123, a minor official community plan project. The minutes say the Minister had asked the committee to consider renewed engagement with local First Nations after receiving no reply to earlier engagement.[1]

In the meeting recording, planner Kim Stockdill described three options for Bylaw 123: stop the project, continue with additional engagement, or ask the Minister to approve or reject the bylaw as submitted.[2]

The first option is to proceed no further with the project. So if the LTC feels as though that it would like to free up their work program for an alternative active project, there is an option for the LTC to proceed no further with this project, and that's option one.
