The South Pender Local Trust Committee approved a development variance permit to increase the maximum floor area of a proposed dwelling at 9825 Canal Road. The minutes say trustees noted the reasons for a 5,000-square-foot home for a multi-generational family were valid and that the proposed building location would have the least environmental impact.[1]
The committee denied a temporary-use permit application for a short-term vacation rental at 9890 Castle Road. In discussion, the minutes record that the applicants had worked to address concerns, while the Strata Council and nearby residents had expressed considerable opposition; they also note there was no precedent for short-term vacation-rental applications in the South Pender area.[1]
The minutes also record that trustees directed staff to schedule a meeting before the next regular meeting to discuss future work, projects and community engagement processes residents would like the committee to take on.[1]
