Trustee Steve Wright asked staff to bring Brooks Point Regional Park’s land designation forward as an action item for the newly elected trustees, after suggesting the property should be rezoned to a conservation area.[1]
Wright said he had concerns about large gatherings, including weddings, and vegetation clearing that could affect plants and animals. He reported attending a meeting about the park’s management plan with Capital Regional District Parks, the Pender Island Conservancy Association and a biologist.[1]
Wright said the CRD had designated the park as a Community Park, which he said was not within the terms of the park management plan. The minutes record that the Islands Trust land-use zone is Community Park 3.[1]
During the meeting, a member of the public said the park was listed as a Conservancy Reserve and supported a conservation designation consistent with the management plan. The minutes also record Wright’s report that the CRD owns the park.[1]
